In October 2019, we partnered with the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee to work pro bono on a Social Security Disability cessation case. The client was determined disabled in 2015 based on a mental health diagnosis. Thus, establishing the impact of his continued mental health impairments was critical in order to continue his Social Security income. However, in support of his disability review, the client primarily submitted medical records evidencing his physical limitations and focused on his physical impairments rather than highlighting his persistent struggles with mental illness. Our attorneys assembled documents from his mental health provider, including an expert opinion related to the client’s ability to work. The last hurdle in the case was working with the client and his medical expert to keep his listed disability the focal point of the hearing. A written order received in August 2020 confirmed the client’s disability and the continuation of his income from Social Security Disability.
