Firm Has Announced 15 Attorney Hires in 2022 Across Several Key Practice Areas
Nashville, Tenn., (March 15, 2022) – Bass, Berry & Sims is pleased to announce its continued growth in Tennessee with the addition of eight new attorneys. In Nashville, Jonathan Thomaston joins as a senior trusts & estates attorney and Kristin Titley joins as an attorney, along with associates Marina Kirtland Carrier, Zane Cavender, Taylor O. Curtis, Emily E. Fountain and Gregory F. Maczko. In Knoxville, Caleb Tindell joins as a corporate attorney.

Marina Kirtland Carrier (Associate, Nashville) assists clients with commercial finance and real estate transactions. Her practice involves advising borrowers and lenders in financing transactions and representing developers, investors and owners in the acquisition, financing, disposition and leasing of real property. Prior to joining the firm, Carrier was an associate at Waller in Nashville. She earned a law degree from the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law (2020), a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in health promotion and behavior sciences from the University of Louisville (2017) and an undergraduate degree from Morehead State University (2015).
Zane Cavender (Associate, Nashville) represents clients on a broad range of transactions involving the development, transfer, and licensing of technology and intellectual property. He helps clients protect their IP assets in a variety of transactions, including licensing and service agreements, mergers and acquisitions, strategic relationships, and others. Prior to joining the firm, Cavender practiced with Nelson Mullins, and during his undergraduate studies, he interned in the office of U.S. Senator John Cornyn in Washington, D.C. Cavender earned a law degree from Vanderbilt Law School (2020) and a master’s and undergraduate degrees from Southern Methodist University (2015 and 2014, respectively).
Taylor O. Curtis (Associate, Nashville) focuses his practice on the tax aspects of complex business transactions and reorganizations. He serves as a tax advisor to clients on tax issues related to entity formations, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, capital markets transactions and venture capital and private equity investments. He previously practiced as a tax associate at a firm in Las Vegas and a firm in St. Louis. Curtis earned an LL.M. In taxation and a law degree from Washington University School of Law (2018) and an undergraduate degree from Drury University (2015).
Taylor Curtis is currently licensed to practice in Missouri and Nevada and registered to practice in Tennessee pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 7 Sec. 10.07
Emily E. Fountain (Associate, Nashville) counsels companies on healthcare fraud and abuse matters related to alleged violations under the False Claims Act (FCA), Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), the Stark Law and other state and federal statutes. In addition, she advises clients in response to federal and state government actions and investigations. Prior to joining the firm, Fountain was an associate with Sidley Austin LLP in New York. She earned a law degree from the New York University School of Law (2018), a master’s degree from Marian University (2015) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia (2013).

Gregory F. Maczko (Associate, Nashville) provides healthcare regulatory and transactional counsel as it relates to mergers and acquisitions, compliance and operational matters. He earned a law degree from Vanderbilt Law School (2021) and an undergraduate degree from Belmont University (2011).
Jonathan Thomaston (Senior Trusts & Estates Attorney, Nashville) focuses his practice in the areas of estate planning and estate and trust administration. He counsels clients in the administration of trusts and estates and the drafting of various estate planning documents, including wills, powers of attorney, and revocable and irrevocable trusts. Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Thomaston worked with the Cumberland Trust and Investment Company as a vice president and trust officer and the manager of estate administration. He also served as chief judicial law clerk for the Circuit and Chancery Courts of the 21st Judicial District of Tennessee. Thomaston earned a law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law (2011) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2008).
Caleb Tindell (Corporate Attorney, Knoxville) counsels clients on a wide range of corporate matters, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, commercial contracts, capital raising and investments, entity formation and general governance matters. He advises clients ranging from small start-ups to publicly traded entities at various stages of maturity across several industries. Prior to joining the firm, Tindell practiced with a firm in Cincinnati. He earned a law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law (2015) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee (2012).

Kristin Titley (Attorney, Nashville) represents clients in all facets of employment and labor matters, including litigation involving discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, and proceedings before the state and federal courts and administrative agencies. She also advises employers on all aspects of employment law, including complex issues related to contract disputes, discharge, discipline and discrimination, as well as best practices with regard to employee leave and accommodation matters. Following law school, Titley served as a judicial law clerk at the Pulaski County (Arkansas) Circuit Court, 16th division. She earned a law degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law (2015) and undergraduate degrees from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (2010).
