The Tennessean reports on how Bass, Berry & Sims is hoping to increase the diversity in Nashville’s legal scene through scholarships to Fisk University students and the annual Salute to African-American Executives & Emerging Leaders event that brings together African-American business leaders with students.
“Fisk is doing good work. For many years they have needed financial support, and we are just trying to do our part,” Keith Simmons, managing partner, said.
“If we can inspire others to support Fisk and celebrate the success of these people who come to the Salute, that is a good thing.”
The firm also created an African American Affinity Group, an internal support group for its attorneys to work on career development, increase minority representation in the firm and mentor undergraduate students who want to become attorneys.
