Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Steve Jasper will speak at HMB Legal Counsel’s State & Local Tax Webinar titled, “GRTs: The New Kids on the Block,” on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 12:50 PM CT. Steve will be joined by Breen Schiller, Chair of the State & Local Tax Group at HMB Legal Counsel, and Nikki Dobay, Senior Tax Counsel of the Council On State Taxation (COST), on a panel that will discuss the two newest state-level gross receipts taxes (GRTs)—the Tennessee Business Tax and the Oregon Corporate Activity Tax (Oregon CAT).
The group will then engage in a discussion of how these newest GRTs compare to those that have been around for a while, including the Washington B&O tax, the Ohio CAT, Texas Margins Tax and the Nevada Commerce Tax. Finally, the panel will opine on whether Tennessee and Oregon are anomalies or whether the GRT is the wave of the future.
