As part of our pro bono commitment to empower communities and help remedy the economic inequalities that pervade low-income communities, attorneys in our Memphis office are leading a pro bono project with Advance Memphis, a nonprofit working to revitalize South Memphis. Its programs to connect residents with job opportunities include Advance Memphis Staffing, Advance Memphis Warehouse and an entrepreneur incubator, LAUNCH. Our attorneys are working with the nonprofit to review contracts and leases to support the work of Advance Memphis Staffing and the Warehouse. Other attorneys are providing entrepreneurs with legal counsel for one year, advising the new business owners on a variety of issues including business formation, funding, and employment among others. This work has a real impact on economic disparity: in 2019, community residents working through Advance Memphis Staffing earned $902,000, and the top five LAUNCH entrepreneurs generated revenue of $422,000.
