We represented R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company (NYSE: RRD) and its affiliate, Check Printers, Inc., in their challenges to assessments of Tennessee sales tax and business tax totaling over $11 million. In significant part, the Tennessee Department of Revenue based these assessments on its determination that R.R. Donnelley and Check Printers were not “manufacturers” for purposes of Tennessee tax, despite R.R. Donnelley being one of the world’s largest commercial printing companies. We filed lawsuits on behalf of R.R. Donnelley and Check Printers to dispute these assessments, and our motion for summary judgment in the Check Printers case is currently pending before the Davidson County Chancery Court.
R.R. Donnelley is a Fortune 500 company that provides commercial printing for businesses, creating products such as retail inserts, directories, and financial materials.
