Representation of Rural Hospital: Response to Controlled Substances Diversion Investigation

We represented a rural hospital in connection with a controlled substances diversion matter involving a former nurse who diverted more than 1,000 hydrocodone and oxycodone tablets. After the nurse alleged that deficiencies in the hospital’s controlled substances practices contributed to the diversion, we assisted the hospital in responding to the allegations and demonstrating its compliance policies and recordkeeping practices. The nurse ultimately accepted a plea agreement, and no action was taken against the hospital.
