Following the recent headlines surrounding data privacy and the handling of consumer financial information, Bass, Berry & Sims is hosting a forum of particular interest to general counsel and compliance officers whose businesses deal with this type of data. The forum, titled “Regulation Of Consumer Data – The View From D.C.,” will walk through the life cycle of a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) financial services investigation and discuss the latest developments from Congress and the federal regulatory agencies on issues of consumer data and privacy.
Prior to hosting this event, Bass, Berry & Sims represented TeleCheck Services Inc. in a FTC case alleging Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) violations in TeleCheck’s handling of consumer information. TeleCheck settled the case by agreeing to pay a $3.5 million settlement. The case was outlined in various publications including Law360, in which Bass, Berry & Sims attorney David Esquivel was quoted.
