Bass, Berry & Sims pro bono coordinator Lucinda Smith joined the Legal Aid in Action podcast to discuss her longstanding commitment to pro bono service and the impact legal help has on individuals, families, and communities. Throughout the conversation, she also highlighted Bass, Berry & Sims’ longstanding commitment to pro bono work and community service, sharing how the firm’s Pro Bono Program provides legal assistance to those who may otherwise lack access to representation.
During the conversation, Lucinda shared how the firm’s volunteer work aligns within three core areas: strengthening families, empowering communities, and protecting civil rights. She discussed the meaningful role attorneys can play in helping individuals navigate legal challenges that affect family stability, economic opportunity, housing, public benefits, and other essential aspects of daily life. She also discussed how access to legal representation can empower communities by helping people overcome barriers that limit financial security, stability, and opportunity.
In addition, Lucinda emphasized the critical role legal service organizations and pro bono attorneys play in protecting civil rights and ensuring that vulnerable individuals have access to legal resources and advocacy when facing discrimination, inequitable treatment, or other legal obstacles.
The conversation also explored the personal and professional rewards of pro bono service. Lucinda reflected on the meaningful client relationships that can result from volunteer work and encouraged attorneys to use their skills to make a tangible difference in their communities.
