Susie Bilbro advises clients across a range of industries on all aspects of employee welfare benefit and retirement plans, including design, structure, implementation, day-to-day administration and termination of retirement and health and welfare benefit plans.
In her practice, Susie collaborates with human resources teams, in-house counsel, and other benefits professionals to navigate complex federal and state government regulations such as ERISA, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), COBRA, the Internal Revenue Code, HIPAA, and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act as they intersect with a variety of employee benefits plans, including:
- Self-insured medical, dental and vision plans.
- Cafeteria plans (including health and dependent care flexible spending accounts).
- Health savings accounts (HSAs) and health reimbursement accounts (HRAs).
- Fringe benefit and wellness programs.
In addition, Susie regularly negotiates contracts and service agreements on behalf of clients with retirement and welfare plan vendors. Susie also has experience responding to IRS and Department of Labor (DOL) audit requests or penalty notices, and assisting employers in making corrections in accordance with IRS or DOL procedures upon discovery of plan document, operational and/or fiduciary errors.
Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Susie practiced in the employee benefits groups at Waller in Nashville, Tennessee and at Morris, Manning & Martin in Atlanta, Georgia.
